As a student of Social Media I have been fascinated with the many ways Social Media platforms can be used. As facebook and twitter have been brushed off by older generations as a fad, the younger generation uses the tools they grew up with to organize themselves on a scale larger than humanity has ever been capable of doing in the past.
I have blogged about the hacker activist group, Anonymous, in the past. They seem to do mostly good but there have been instances of the group going rouge. As they mature though they seem to be a force to be reckoned with.
So now onto their newest mission which many people do not understand. Their newest mission is “Occupy Wall Street”. It’s a mission that has no objective… yet. Right now this mission is in its infancy. Just like in Egypt, Libya and Tunisia, the game plan usually follows a 3 step plan.
- Step 1 was to assemble – they have assembled a core group and are getting to know each other. They will exchange emails, social media accounts and stay in touch.
- Step 2 is to get organized – that’s what they are doing.
- Step 3 – they will get to work implementing their game plan, whatever that is they decide on doing.
So far the police are stepping out of the way and allowing these protests, so is the Mayor of NYC, Mayor Bloomberg. If you’re having trouble figuring out if this protest is the real deal or not, and I know that the media is not reporting this protest because it’s just way too small, if this protest group manages to organize a protest to rival the sizable protests of the middle east, they will get noticed by the media and may affect change. For now they are content to livestream their occupation and protest here at GlobalRevolution.
There is precedence here so I wouldn’t take it lightly and the NYPD is not taking it lightly either. So… if you’re having trouble finding info on this protest online, and many people are because they are not fully organized yet, check out the video and links below. Keep following the hashtags #OccupyWallStreet, #OurWallStreet & #TakeWallStreet for up to the minute info on twitter and there is also a secure blog at https://occupywallst.org.

And here is a link to the Orientation guide Google Doc’s.Here is a YouTube playlist that is being updated frequently with video from the Liberty Park area. Again, there is plenty of information being uploaded to YouTube, twitter and facebook but it’s very disorganized. Eventually it will become more organized and you will be able to find plenty of info about this peaceful protest.
It’s very interesting how maybe even 5 years ago this would not be possible because the Social Media tools were not available.
