How Facebook plans to take over the world | The Guardian

“You hear all the platitudes about Facebook connecting the planet, but to say they are doing it for benevolent reasons is absolute nonsense. It’s about connecting commerce, not people,” says venture capitalist and former journalist Om Malik, who reminds us of the hidden agenda of social networking firms: if you’re not paying, you’re the product.

This week, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg appeared to publicly denounce the political positions of Donald Trump’s presidential campaign during the keynote speech of the company’s annual F8 developer conference. Top questions from employees at Facebook concerned getting fired, employee departures and slow growth.

OMG! I was just taken back to my childhood. I still have the game and the system. I have to go back and check this out! If I was a developer back in the 80's what would I want people to find 30 years from now?

How Facebook is slowly eating the rest of the Internet – The Washington Post

By |2016-04-11T20:36:55-04:00April 11th, 2016|Facebook, Technology|1 Comment

Another interesting article in the Washington Post. Facebook reminds me of AOL. AOL also wanted to be "the internet". AOL was actually known as a walled internet and it took a while for newbies to the internet to realize there was a much more vibrant internet outside those walls.

Medium and Twitter founder: ‘We put junk food in front of them and they eat it’

By |2018-02-05T10:58:46-05:00April 10th, 2016|Technology|1 Comment

Ev Williams (Co-Founder of Twitter and Founder of Medium) is not a fan of the increasingly homogenised media he currently sees, with its emphasis on feeding the great, gaping maw of platforms like Twitter and Facebook too often producing what he describes as tantamount to junk food.

It’s Your Duty to Install Ad Blockers. But Which Ones and Why?

By |2015-11-23T15:46:58-05:00November 22nd, 2015|Internet Security, Technology|1 Comment

If you value your privacy you might have taken notice this week when Edward Snowden says "it's your 'duty' to install ad blockers"... the government surveillance whistleblower gave some advice on how average citizens can shield their privacy online. One of the less obvious security tips: flip on an ad blocker."

Facebook hopes to be able to take advantage of the vast amount of data people are producing every day. 'There's just going to be a lot more data generated about what's happening in the world, and the conventional models and systems that we have today won't scale,' said Jay Parikh, Facebook's VP of engineering. Wow! An Artificial Intelligence that knows EVERYTHING about you and you freely gave it all the info! Creepy!

The Day After the Paris Attacks, from the eyes of a “Scoper”

By |2016-10-06T21:30:59-04:00November 15th, 2015|Technology|2 Comments

Periscope... where some of the best facilitators of conversation are just roaming around the streets. I happen to follow a Paris "Scoper" and here you can follow along and check out Paris the day after the recent attacks. Paris is beautiful. Paris is recovering far better than NYC did back in the day when we were attacked...

Talking about Ghetto Social Media Communities. Facebook, Twitter & Instagram et all

By |2015-11-29T09:19:39-05:00October 11th, 2015|Social Media, Technology|1 Comment

Matt Drudge, who is the operator of the DrudgeReport, one of the TOP news websites on the planet, reminded me of how the internet was about 20 years ago. He steps out to talk to Alex Jones of InfoWars this past week and it’s one of the most profound interviews I have heard in quite a while. Step inside the blog to listen to two internet giants talk about the decline of social media into "Ghetto" platforms that are either all owned by the same company or financed by the same banking system...

Visiting the Kennedy Space Center

By |2015-11-15T08:32:34-05:00August 30th, 2015|Technology, The Blog|0 Comments

Some pics from my visit to "The Kennedy Space Center" which is built more like a theme park for the future Space Tourism industry. Most of the park is dedicated to the work that was done by the Space Shuttle program. One of my favorite quotes that I found at the park: For the eyes of the world now look into space, to the moon and to the planets beyond, and we have vowed that we shall not see it governed by a hostile flag of conquest, but by a banner of freedom and peace. We have vowed that we shall not see space filled with weapons of mass destruction, but with instruments of knowledge and understanding.

People who are active on Periscope are called "Scopers" and pretty much anything goes when it comes to "Scoping"... including porn. I do believe I even watched part of Jurassic World that someone was streaming in real time. Please NSA, I only watched 5 minutes!!

I have 2 Secure Email Accounts to Give Away

By |2014-10-19T10:21:18-04:00October 19th, 2014|Internet Security, Technology|15 Comments

Startmail gave me two companion accounts to give away with the subscription. Rather than waste them by just forwarding the links to people who may not be tech savvy enough to use them, I figured I would post them to the blog, although I do think the service is great for those who are not tech savvy either.

Facebook Privacy Issues Driving More People to Instagram… which is Facebook!

By |2015-11-05T15:56:39-05:00August 27th, 2014|Facebook, Internet Security, Technology|3 Comments

Most people I talked to about the new Messenger app were outraged that Facebook has access to everything on their phones so everyone is now a privacy expert and going around encouraging each other to delete the Facebook Messenger app. "Privacy Experts" agree that the app has access to your camera, photo's, your location data, everything you post to Facebook, all your contacts info and all your personal info which users themselves freely give up. How did this happen!?!?!?

The #NoIceBucketChallenge is On! Why Can’t Charities Find Cures For Their Causes???

By |2014-08-21T10:08:23-04:00August 21st, 2014|Technology|2 Comments

Not nearly as popular as the #ALSIceBucketChallenge, the #NoIceBucketChallenge will really make you think… Why am I pouring Ice Water over my head? Are we aware that the entire state of California is in a drought? Children in Africa have to walk 3 miles or more for their bucket of water? Hey, are we just doing this to get out of donating???
