One of the greatest lessons I’ve learned is the value of making small upgrades in life. These aren’t grand, life-altering changes that happen overnight. Instead, they’re tiny, intentional improvements that, over time, compound into something transformative. The key? Never stop making them, no matter how small they seem. You never know where these steps will lead you.As I gear up for another summer vacation, I’m focusing on a few more of these small upgrades. They don’t have to be monumental to make a difference. Here are some I’m embracing this season:

A mindful morning ritual. For a long time I have dedicating five minutes each morning to journaling or reflecting on the previous day, setting a positive tone for the upcoming day. I used to do this from my home office. Now I have upgraded to a very powerful iPad and do it from most anywhere. Most of the time I do it while watching a sunrise over a strong dark coffee.

A new interesting book. Whether it’s a thought-provoking novel or a guide to personal growth, a single book can spark new ideas and shift your perspective. I am currently finishing up a book called “Strapless“. It is a book centered around my favorite painting called “Madame X”, a scandalous painting in its day. The artist received the worst reviews of his career, and his subject’s reputation never recovered. The subject, Gautreau, died in 1915, an unhappy recluse. The Artist, Sargent, weathered the storm to become both prosperous and revered.

Meaningful artwork for the home. I’m drawn to pieces with a story behind them—something that adds beauty and sparks conversation. Hence my last bullet point. I intend to get a replica of this artwork in my home.

A tweak to my workout routine. After decades of staying active, even a small change, like adding a new exercise or increasing intensity, keeps things fresh and challenging. I am far past the grueling workouts at the crack of dawn. 7-10 minute workouts are just fine for me and keep me incredibly healthy. Think small and build!

You could wait for a life-changing moment—like winning the lottery or meeting your Prince or Princess Charming to sweep you into a new reality. But there’s something deeply empowering about taking control of your own growth. Small, consistent upgrades build on each other, creating a foundation for a life that’s richer, more fulfilling, and uniquely yours.

Why do these small changes matter? Because they’re sustainable. Grand resolutions often fizzle out, but a single new habit—like drinking more water, learning a new skill, or decluttering one corner of your home—can grow into a lifelong practice. Over time, these upgrades stack up, shaping a life that reflects your values and aspirations.

So, as I head into this summer, I’m committing to my next set of upgrades. What about you? What small change can you make today that might lead to a better tomorrow? Start small, stay consistent, and watch how far those little steps can take you.
