Summer Vacation!

Took a Little Vacation this month, a much-needed break…

I’ve done a LOT of traveling in my lifetime. So much traveling that I had gotten sick of traveling a long time ago. Most of my traveling occurred for work and was in the 90’s… before 9/11. I’d spend months on the road in a different city every week. The assignment lasted 2 years and ended in 2000. Since then I have taken about 2 trips that required me to fly. I just haven’t had the travel bug in me like I used to and 9/11 took even more out of me.

Luckily a friend of mine saw my need for a vacation, whether I wanted to admit to it or not, and donated a week’s timeshare to me. Cocoa Beach, Florida. I had never been to this part of Florida before… I had extensively explored Orlando, Miami, Tampa and the Panhandle (Panama City), but after that Florida never did interest me in exploring further. That is until I saw my first Sunrise over Cocoa Beach

Sunrise over Cocoa Beach… over the Cocoa Beach Pier

The sun rises directly over the horizon, a shot I cannot get from Long Island…

I don’t get in the mood to take too many selfies but a shot with the Sunrise was worthy…

The Cocoa Beach Pier is a short walk from NYC…

In NY we don’t mention Boston but nice to know Honolulu is only 4700 miles away…

Early Morning Fishing can take your mind off anything…

A view of the Beach looking out over the Space Coast. Far in the distance is the Kennedy Space Center. Must have been quite a sight to see Space Shuttle launches over this view. The Atlas 5 rocket is the next generation of launch vehicles being launched from here. On this visit I did not get a chance to see a launch…

Another view of the beach looking south…

The local “Fuzz”… Ron Jon’s Surf Shop is in the background. Lot’s of great stuff there geared towards an endless summer theme…

And finally looking north towards the Cocoa Beach Pier…

The Space Coast is probably Florida’s best kept secret. Most people try to hit all the Orlando theme parks on their vacation and come back dead tired. All the Theme Parks are about an hour away if you have the desire to do that but I had no desire to visit any of the parks on this visit. It was just beach, pool and catch up on reading. I even turned off the phone for hours at a time! The only thing resembling a theme park was the visit to the Kennedy Space Center. Those pics I’m saving for the next posting because the park deserves it’s own posting.

Until then… Thanks for visiting!
