Long Islanders! And to those of you visiting this summer… Are you getting ready for the summer? Here are some great Apps to help you plan your Long Island summer….

Top 25 Long Islanda free app that simply lists the top 25 places to visit on Long Island. From Belmont Racetrack to the Old Westbury Gardens, this is the simplest app I’ve found to use. There is not a ton of info about each individual place but you get just what you need – a brief description, a map and the standard facebook share button so you can share your favorite spots with your friends.

Jones Beach App – An App about Jones Beach? Nope! This app lists all the concerts that will be going on this summer at the Ikon Theater at Jones Beach. Dates, times, headliners and a link to purchase tickets. The link encourages you to call the box office by just tapping the phone number listed or can take you to the Jones Beach website which is not optimized for mobile and therefore hard to purchase tickets from your phone. Make the phone call instead. Check this app out. It’s also completely free.

NY Islanders – The Islander app is not that polished but serviceable. You can listen to Islander games from the app but when you go to the video section of the app you are taken to the Islanders website which is not optimized for mobile. There is also a tab for “tickets” but when you go there you are taken to ticketmaster and a listing of all tickets being sold for Nassau Coliseum, not just the Islanders. The “More” tab is what Islander fans would be using. Here you find scores, schedules, standings, team roster, stats and everything you would expect from an app that is focused on the Islanders. This app is also free so check it out if you are an Islanders fans.

Essential Long Island – The original Long Island iPhone app. I did a review on this app last year (& yes I follow the author on twitter, @Iyna, a lifelong Long Island Resident). This is by far the most comprehensive app that focuses on Long Island and, from what I understand, the author is planning a refresh in the near future. At $2.99 this is an app to use if you need even more ideas than the free “Top 25 Long Island” app.

Fire Island Ferry App – This is a brand new app this year that came out on April 4th. This little app has a listing of all the Fire Island Ferry Schedules as well as train schedules to the ferry, photos from various photographers around Fire Island as well as tabs for Video’s and Events. The Video’s section is empty but there is an upload feature so I’m assuming that once the summer season starts that you will be able to see video’s from visitor’s. The events tab is also empty so I’m curious to see what will be there too. This app is also completely free.

On Time: LIRR – This is an App I have had for a long time. At $2.99 this app is invaluable for keeping track of every LIRR train on every line, especially the one from Penn Station to Long Beach. :)  The app creators do a great job keeping up with all the schedule changes too and you do not need an internet connection to get train schedules. You download once and have the entire LIRR database in the palm of your hand. A must have for all us train users!

So those are my tips on some of my favorite Long Island iPhone applications. If you know of any others that should be added leave me a comment below. :)
