I was up all night writing a letter to the president of the United States. Supposedly he personally reads all letters addressed to him. We shall see. I know he’s a busy man so I got right to the point. You can click on the letter if it’s too small for you to read.

I’m going to print this out and put it in the mail. I will post the response when I get one. What do you think that response will be?

I tweeted this article just a few minutes ago, “Heroes of The Economy“, because in my opinion we don’t have enough heroes in the business world today. Most businesses worry about the bottom line and the workers on the bottom of the corporate ladder get saddled with either more work or layoffs. “Just be lucky you have a job”, is the new corporate mantra.

So say hello to the new heroes of the economy. I’m sure there are many more that go unnoticed. These are not just heroes of the economy but true leaders, willing to do their part to help their employees and the economy as a whole. The CEO who takes a paycut to prevent layoffs, the real estate agent who leased office space for free to small businesses since it was just going empty, the president of the oil supply company that offered his employees money to help buy new cars… the list goes on and on….

I wonder if any of this is happening in large company’s focused solely on the bottom line? This is a good reason to give as much help to small businesses as possible. Small businesses are the engine of our economy and obviously the real heroes of the economy are coming out of the small businesses. Time to give them the opportunity to offer affordable health care coverage to their employees too. Better yet, we should all start shopping at small businesses. Let’s help out these real heroes with our wallets.

I think more people should consider careers in small business. In my experience, the larger the company the more focused they are on the bottom line.

I attended the “Healthcare Town Hall” held at Suffolk Community College on Monday, October 5th. I have to admit, I received the invitation over email on October 3rd, 2 days before the event, but the turnout was still significant. Many were turned away. It would have been significantly higher if notice was put in the papers or on TV.

The Town Hall was a chance for constituents to ask questions of Congressman Steve Israel who represents NY’s 2nd District.

The very first question asked was the only question I wanted an answer for. Does he support the Public Option? Here is the Newsday Story. Yours truly was one of the 450 people allowed into the HealthCare Townhall. :)

“Compared to the raucous and sometimes violent crowds of past healthcare meetings posted to the internet, this one was half civilized. There were some political groups there just to get heard and maybe get in the papers but I would have to say a definite majority cheered when Rep. Isreal announced his support and that same majority was respectfully quiet, allowing those who had an opinion to speak.”

Bottom Line: Looks like that public option might make it after all.
