It’s Spring! Time for some Spring Cleaning tips for your computer.
As MAC users, Spring Cleaning is not a big affair. The MAC operating system is incredibly stable and does not need much maintenance. But, if your like me, installing and uninstalling apps due to testing, you may want to run some system maintenance software once in a while. I prefer Cleanmymac by Macpaw. For $14.99 you get a lifetime license, the software has an extremely user friendly interface and constantly reminds me to empty my trash. I think I have gotten value for my money in this little program.
But if your cheap, and who isn’t, OnyX is a multifunction utility for Mac OS X that is completely free. This little program doesn’t have the great looking interface and doesn’t run in the background but does basic tasks like allowing you to verify the Start-up Disk and the structure of its System files, run miscellaneous tasks of system maintenance, configure the hidden parameters of the Finder, Dock and of some of Apple’s own applications, delete caches, remove a certain number of files and folders that may become cumbersome and more. And YouTube has plenty of videos on how to use this software program…
Here are some of the free tools I use to clean up a windows computer
- Crapcleaner – includes a registry cleaner which is a must have tool for any windows user
- Spybot Search & Destroy – detects and removes spy-ware, a relatively new kind of threat not yet covered by common anti-virus applications.
- Ad-Aware – real-time protection, advanced Genocode detection technology, rootkit protection, automatic updates
So, if your computer is running slow, time for a little Spring Cleaning! Get to work. :)
